Ingredients

12 slices of Lesters Montreal Smoked Meat

1 rectangular sheet of frozen puff pastry (½ of a 400 g package), thawed

¼ cup Dijon mustard or regular yellow mustard

1 egg yolk, beaten with a bit of water

8 small pickles

Pomegranate arils, to taste (optional)

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 205 °C (400 °F).
  2. On your work surface, unroll the puff pastry sheet. Brush the entire surface with mustard, then top with the smoked meat slices.
  3. Cut the sheet into eight equal strips about 2–3 cm (¾ in to 1 ¼ in) wide.
  4. Thread each strip onto a wooden skewer, folding it back and forth to form a tree shape.
  5. Place the skewers on a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush with the beaten egg yolk.
  6. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown. Remove from the oven.
  7. Before serving, top each tree with a small pickle. Garnish with pomegranate arils if desired.
