Ingredients

6 Lesters Jumbo Original Hot Dogs

400 g (about 1 lb) lean ground beef

1 small onion, thinly sliced

3 slices of yellow cheddar, cut in half

2 tbsp butter

6 Italian-style hot dog buns, split lengthwise

Salt and pepper to taste

Toppings of your choice: relish, ketchup, mustard, pickle, mayonnaise

Preparation

  1. Make a slit down the center of each sausage without cutting all the way through at the ends.
  2. Shape six patties with the ground beef. Press one patty into the slit of each sausage. Place two onion slices on one side and press firmly so they stick to the meat. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook the stuffed sausages for 5 minutes, onion side down, over medium-high heat in an oiled skillet or on a griddle.
  4. Flip the stuffed sausages and continue cooking for 3 minutes, until the inside of the beef patties is no longer pink.
  5. Place a half-slice of cheese on each stuffed sausage and cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, butter the outside of the buns and toast them in the skillet or on the griddle.
  7. To serve, place one stuffed sausage in each bun and top with garnishes of your choice.
