Preheat the barbecue to medium-high heat (about 220°C / 425°F).
Thread the hot dogs onto skewers. Using a knife, cut each hot dog into a spiral shape by rotating the skewer as you slice.
Brush the hot dogs with barbecue sauce.
In a small bowl, combine the barbecue seasoning and brown sugar. Sprinkle the mixture over the hot dogs.
Place the hot dogs on the hot, oiled grill. Cook for 3 to 5 minutes, turning occasionally, until caramelized.
Meanwhile, fill the inside of each bun with shredded cheddar cheese. Place the buns on the grill and toast for 1 to 2 minutes, until the cheese has melted.
Remove the skewers from the hot dogs. Place the hot dogs in the buns and serve.
